BIRD WATCHING
Cottages at the Tall Trees have balconies that allow the visitors to watch birds at eye-level. The winged surprises appear in all colours and hues. The entire mountainside resounds with their tweets, chirps, shrieks, trills, hoots, whistles and the consistent chorus of cicadas. You will come face to face with birds varying from the whistling school boy, the musical thrush, the mimicking mynah, owls that hoot, several types of parakeets, shrikes, hornbills, racket-tailed drongos, and many many more.
BUTTERFLY WATCHING
Watch and record the entire lifecycle of a butterfly from close quarters. The variegated flora at the Tall Trees sustains a great assortment of butterflies. Large swallowtails like the southern bird-wing butterfly - one of India's largest, and countless moths, including the Atlas moth - the largest in the world, all fly free here.

ANAYIRANGAL BOATING
Anayirangal Dam is an earthen dam built on the Panniyar River, located in the Chinnakanal and Santhanpara panchayats, 22 kilometers from Munnar in Idukki district, Kerala. Surrounded by lush forest on one side and the iconic Tata Tea Plantation on the other, the dam creates a picturesque and serene environment, perfect for nature lovers. Visitors can enjoy boating along the dam’s banks, providing a unique way to experience the beauty of the surroundings.
KOLUKKUMALAI SUNRISE TREK
Kolukkumalai, situated in Suryanelli, is a paradise for trekkers around the world. The Kolukkumalai peak, standing about 7,000 feet above sea level, offers breathtaking views. The sunrise views from the hill are the best. Kolukkumalai is located 26 km from Munnar and is only accessible by jeeps due to the rugged terrain. A small trek of 1.5 km takes you to the perfect sunrise view of Kolukkumalai. The trek can be challenging during the rainy season as the surface becomes slippery. Kolukkumalai offers a unique sunrise experience.
MEESAPULIMALA TREK
Meesapulimala is one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in South India and the second-highest peak in the Western Ghats. Standing at about 2,700 metres above sea level, Meesapulimala offers breathtaking views. The most popular 8 km trek route starts from the KFDC base camp, approximately 24 km from Munnar. The base camp can be reached from Munnar via Mattupetty through Aravukad Estate. Trekkers must navigate steep slopes and mountains to reach the peak, making the journey as rewarding as the destination. Treks are conducted daily under the guidance of government officials. The best time to visit Meesapulimala is from October to February.
ERAVIKULAM NATIONAL PARK VISIT
Nestled 7,000 feet above sea level, Eravikulam National Park is a breathtaking sanctuary that showcases a rich tapestry of flora and fauna. Once a hunting ground for British planters, it has transformed into a haven for wildlife, particularly the endangered Nilgiri Tahr. Established as a sanctuary in 1975, its primary aim is the conservation of this indigenous mountain goat species. The park is renowned for its spectacular beauty, often drawing comparisons to the majestic Alps. Dominated by the towering Anamudi, the highest peak south of the Himalayas, it offers nature enthusiasts unparalleled opportunities for trekking and wildlife observation. Located approximately 15 kilometers north of Munnar, Eravikulam can be accessed from Kochi (135 km) and Kottayam (148 km) by road. The park experiences heavy rainfall during the southwest (June/July) and retreating (October/November) monsoons, making it one of the wettest regions globally. Conversely, April and May bring warmer temperatures, while winter (December to February) brings occasional frost, adding a magical touch to the landscape. It is the natural habitat of the Nilgiri tahr in Munnar, a fully disabled-friendly ecotourism destination as well as a carbon-negative national park.
Top Station Trek & Mountain Sighting:
Top Station Munnar, located about 32 km from Munnar along the Munnar-Kodaikanal Road, is one of the most attractive tourist spots in the region. Although it is part of Munnar, Top Station lies within Tamil Nadu and is renowned for its breathtaking views and the rare Neelakurinji Flowers, which bloom every 12 years. The name "Top Station" originates from its historical significance as the upper terminal of the Kottaguruddi aerial ropeway and the highest terminal railway station of the Kundala Valley Railway, established in 1902. Visitors to Top Station are treated to mesmerizing vistas of the Western Ghats and the valleys of the Thenni District of Tamil Nadu. The journey up the winding roads, flanked by lush tea estates, adds to the scenic allure. Once at the summit, tourists can access a viewpoint, which requires a small entry fee, to enjoy panoramic views of the expansive Western Ghats and the valleys below. The weather at Top Station is pleasant throughout the year, making it an all-season destination. However, the best time to visit is from January to April, when the weather is particularly favorable, offering an ideal setting for sightseeing and nature exploration.
VATTAVADA VILLAGE TREK
Vattavada is a beautiful place located 45 km east of Munnar, sitting 6,500 feet above sea level. It is famous for its terraced slopes and fertile valleys that grow some of the best crops in Kerala. People love visiting this area because of its pleasant climate and year-round sunshine. The colorful vegetable fields are mixed with patches of forest, where you can see eucalyptus and conifer trees. You might also spot rare butterflies in different colors and sizes.
